Friend of mine is offering up a good deal for a new Yamaha YHT340, but I can't seem to find any reviews online. Does anyone have any info, feedback, reviews, etc. on this set?

Let's just say that it was discontinued for a reason. In a similar category, try the Yamaha YHT-450, or even the YHT-150--both better choices. (See http://www.yamaha.com/yec/products/HTIB/HTIB2.htm )

That bad eh? Thanks, I'll keep looking. He was offering it new for a couple of C notes, so the discount made it seem worth it. I'll keep looking.

if you're looking to spend around a couple hundred why not go for the onkyo ht-s570? It's a powerful system that comes with a great sub. If you find the speakers to be insufficient you can trade them out for more expensive ones later on. Personally, I've found the speakers to handle whatever I've thrown at them in my very large bedroom.


I haven't attempted to put this system in my living room, but if I did, I'm sure it would sound great with or without upgraded speakers.


Fry's has this system for $200 from time to time and is far superior to the yamaha 150, 340 or any new component system pieced together at around $400 and barring the 770 and yamaha 755 nothing comes close to it around this price point.

It's not a bad system, when compared to a typical HTiB. In fact, it's above average. But for Yamaha or Onkyo level HTiBs, it is subpar. Nevertheless, $200 is a great deal for this system. At that price, it is certainly worth it.
