My thoughts.
Mastercard/Visa/Amex usually will not cover over $300 price cap the MFG warranty and extend it. This is a large myth that people like to believe.
I have been surfing sites like these everyday for years, never have I read or seen where it worked out like it is suggested. I would not bet on this aspect, because finding out will be too late.
Also, the MFG only covers defects, and not picture quality. basically they will only fix it if it breaks beacause it was built or assembled incorrectly, nothing more.
You get no maintaince from the MFG, it's defects only. Some MFG's don't even guarantee IN HOME SERVICE, means you pay extra or they hual the set out of your home.
"Like has been said many times, electronics that are defective usually break within the first few months."
Not really. What makes you say that? I've seen sets break only weeks after the MFG warranty expired. With RPTV's this is simply not true.

Great idea
and worthwhile investment for sure.

With a $500 deductible or even more. The less deductible you pay, the more per month or per year you pay... In the end, you pay for it either way, and never make out this way. It's a lose/lose situation.

Perhaps, the top 5% on these boards can.
If your willing to devote enough time and effort you can do anything, but the effort required and the risks you take might not be worth it compared to spending the money.
Depending on your salary and the effort required to earn and pay for either the yearly maintainace (can be as much as 165$/hour in home) or the service plan, it might be better than the effort and task of having to do it yourself.
I did not buy and extended warranty on mine. I stuck with the 1 year that came with it, which is now expired.
My set still works great... and I have tweaked it to hell and back, so I feel I made the right choice.
but, the knowledge I had to obtain and effort I went through... I would not reccomend it unless you enjoy it as a hobby.

2. Get a high-quality power surge protector (which includes CATV/SAT/DSS) input and if you get a surge, the protector should stop it at the unit. If not, those protectors cover connected equipment (some up to like a gazillion dollars). |

3. Your homeowners insurance also covers lightning and surges. |

QUESTION ? Can a novice technofile become smart enough to do most of the yearly maintance on his Mits on his own ? Are there any good posts that outline what/when/how (or what NOT/when NOT/how NOT) to do your own maintenance. |
