YEE HAW! Got my Vision One

I've been HUGE fan of this particular forum for many years and have really come to embrace the advice and input of many of its leading contributors! Thanks Tim, Terry, Mike Parker and Curt Palme.

I started in this hobby of CRT home theater by acquiring, via eBay, a Sony 1272q. Man was I stoked!!! For a relatively small investment I was in the HT game!

But MAN! those visible scan lines were annoying!! What to do? Wah LA! 1st gen DVDO iScan. Great piece of gear, but it ran hot! Burned the first one out, was more careful with its replacement.

But 7" wasn't good enough...but HEY! the old employer is throwing away 2 perfectly good Barco808's! Hey Mr. Bossman I'll take those off your hands!!!

Next thing you know it's...HEY CURT have I got a deal for you!!!! :D

Down comes the Sony...out goes the 2 Barcos, and in comes my relatively new EHome 8501...but the DVDO doesn't cut it anymore.....time for an AVS power buy on a new IScan +...ALLRIGHT!!! I'm watching HDTV on my new 8" tubes...WOW....CRT nirvana...

BUT NO! Wait!...my 480p DVD experience is suffering from 720p envy...Waaah! I need a scaler and can't afford one! But HEY! I build pc's as a hobby, what's this?? the HTPC forum...YES! Theatertek...NICE....MP1 mod to my Radeon9700...SWEET! HOLY GRAIL!!!! Yes? CRT forum says NO!!!! Need 9" tubes for 1080p...that's the HOLY GRAIL!!! I...MUST...ACQUIRE...9" CRT PROJECTOR!!!

Then comes the fateful day! Someone is selling a low hours Vidikron Vision One for $4500!! How MUCH??? I'll take it!!! yes, yes, YESSSsssss! I've done it, I've reached the pinnacle, the zenith of this hobby, whew!

This past weekend I picked up my new baby, hung it on the ceiling and all I need NOW are the MP mods, a good calibration, an MP5 and I'm GOLDEN!!!

But wait! Mike Parker has discontinued the MP5..DOH! Oh well...HD-DVD is right around the corner.. :) ..or is it Blu-ray.....to be continued!

By now everyone I know thinks I'm certifiable, but deep down inside I'm smilin' like a buddha!!!

You're lucky I didn't find it before you did! :grrr:

:)
Congrats hep!

I think you could actually put some ______ spaces in areas of your post, and we could each fill them in with our specific situation.

Composite video --> Svideo--> NEC IDC 1000 line doubler-->DVDO line doubler-->Quadscan-->NEC IPS 4000Q--> Lumagen Vision-->Lumagen HDP--> HD DVD... etc.

Same with the projector.

Definitely merits a diagnosis of videophilia! :D

Enjoy, 9500LC throws a MARVELOUS picture! :)
Congratulations ! Try Beun's transcoder get the MP mods and a good HDMI to RGBHV transcoder such as Moonjongs and you are set !
I thought 9" projectors were not effected by the market trend. At least that's what a few people were saying 6 months ago. :D

Enjoy.
All!

Thanks for your comments!

Your videophilia comment was 2 funny!

This particular Vision One was acquired from the ex-president of Vidikron and was hand picked by his engineers, SWEET! The sale also included the 115V 60 Hz Electric style ceiling mount kit (CMBV/M). Included in the kit is the low profile ceiling plate, the electric bracket and a Vision adapter plate.

As I have no use for this particular bracket I am putting up for sale in the AVS marketplace. The bracket weighs 65lbs. and has a maximum drop distance of 20 feet. If anyone is interested in acquiring this versatile mount please let me know.

Congrats!

Just out of curiosity (there have been arguments over this in the past): Does Vidikron throw in colour c-elements in the red and green tubes or do they leave the 9500LC pretty much as stock? (Other then the case of course).
