I am closing down on the components for my Media Center Computer and now I have people telling me that I can not install "Windows XP Media Center" I was told (on windows web site look they are right) that I have to be a dealer in order to install.


True or false?

False.

Yes you can buy MCE as a stand alone operating system. You can buy it at Newegg.com The only requirement is that you have to buy a peice of hardware, just buy something like a power cord y-adapter for the cables that power your hard-drives and cd/dvd drives, then your in business.

edit: The Y-splitter is automatically added when you put MCE into your cart.

If you put MCE in your cart at newegg, they automatically put in a Y adapter in your order and charge you. Then, there is a "discount" that happens to be the same price as the adapter.

You can buy the Firefly remote.


Yes you can install MCE just like a standard OS because MCE is basically XP Pro and MCE is actually a stand alone application so you can use it as basic Windows or the MCE interface.

Ok, then Installing MCE should be like installing any other windows OS?

No special care?

About the remote control for MCE, will it come with the OS?

What part of the hardware will the remote control activate?
