My current setup is on it's way out (to the kids' bedroom). The case is a SilverStone LC20-M (silver) - it's just over two years old, loaded with drives, fans, etc.
My new rig will be based on a Gigabyte GA-E7AUM-DS2H. The only expansion cards will be two AverMedia tuners, low-profile combo pcie cards.
The new case will need to have room for the motherboard (mATX, but an ATX-sized case is ok), one optical drive, and one or two hard drives (the rest will go to a server in the basement).
Things I like about the LC20: lots of room (but don't need so much anymore!), smooth-opening covers for optical drive and front ports, front display. Good workmanship, solid construction.
Things I don't like: Silver (wife's choice but she went back on it since then), noisy (not necessarily the case's fault), too tall, too big in general, VFD (instead of LCD).
So, I'm basically looking for something black, sleek, maybe not as big, I don't want lots of knobs or anything really - I never use the front ports. All I really want/need on the front are the optical drive (don't care if it's stealthed), and an LCD display (not VFD) (not a touchscreen, just a two or four line display). I'd prefer not to use riser cards for pcie. Don't need room for any other expansion cards, including video as I'll use the on-board.
I think probably a full ATX case is what I'd prefer, as I'd like to put in a full-sized modular PSU, but I'm not stuck on that.
I'd like to try passive CPU cooling, again I'm not stuck on that and since I'm thinking about a lower profile (lowER than the LC20 but not LOW) I'm not sure if I'll have enough room. CPU will be an E8400.
So - any help? What else do you need to know? Thanks in advance!
