That was an interesting read...thanks for the link.

I was (and still am) thinking about moving over to Tivo...only becase of the HD unit coming out. Actually, that's when I planned on getting an HD monitor too.

Btw: Does anyone know the answer to this one?

If I have multiple TIVOs, is it enough to only have one unit connected to a phone line? I suspect the answer is no... :( The reason is that I finally have a phone drop near a coax drop (finally finished the basement). If the answer's no, when UTVs are no longer supported, I guess I can only hope for a policy change.

Ah, ok. And there's no guide data via the phone line? I suppose I could run a 50 ft line to a unit every few weeks before bed. So the guide data is via the stream like the Utv?

Yup, Series 2 DirecTivos get the guide data via the stream. Yes, I know....the search button. ;)

You could always get the wireless phone jacks... they work well.

Actually, I have a series 1 DTiVo in addition to my UTV, and neither have been connected to a phone line for over four months. With the DTiVo, everything comes thru the satellite, except any software updates.

I get a nag screen on my TiVo every day or so telling me it hasn't made a call, but otherwise works just fine.

Series 1 units that have upgraded to version 3.0 of the DTivo software no longer require the telephone call. The nag screen can get bothersome though.
