your elec. screen - do you use masking?

343 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  DMan
Hey, all you electric screen users - are you using electric masking? I'm buying my first screen today or tomorrow and need to know how important masking is? Projector is LP350 from Infocus, screen probably a Greyhawk but I'm open to suggestions from Da Lite or Draper that are less expensive.

If I get a 100" 16:9 screen could most people live with the bars left and right on 4:3 material, remember the 3" light border on the 350 on all 4 sides! Why I'm posting this - the electric masking is expensive like $1500 more than with no masking. If I knew a bunch of you with electric screens get "used to " not having masking I'll use the money to upgrade to a new processor from Lexicon. But, if you all feel I'll never get used to the bars let me know - I don't want to regret the decision later.

Thanks, Dave

Hi Dave, I have an electric Vidikron (I believe made by Stewart) and do not yet have masking. I will probably set up some manual masking.

Most people who have tried masking won't live without it. Can you set up some temporary masking before you buy the screen and try it out to check out the difference in your setup? I would have purchased one with electric masking if I'd had that option, it's a much more elegant solution.

As a Dila owner I would go with the Grayhawk tab-tensioned with masking if my instalation was 100% permanent.

I could not agree more!! http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

Dave,

For me, masking is one of those options that after you seen it's effect you will definitely want it. It makes a huge difference with light spill from digital projectors. Highly recommended!!
