I need a new receiver for my bedroom system. Bought a new Pio 5010 for the living room, 43" Pio is in the bedroom now. It only has one HDMI input, so I need 1080i pass thru, not interested in processing or conversion, and I doubt I'll ever have a blu ray in the bedroom, so 1080P isn't really needed either, might save me on pricing. I have wall mounted Athena bookshelfs for the fronts and wall mounted Athena bi-pole surrounds. I am using a very good older passive 10" sub with built in crossover. As I use this mostly in bed, and I'm always sitting in the "sweet spot", there is no center channel, will run in phantom. Subsequently, a 5.1 receiver would work well. I do have speakers in the bathroom flush with the tile around the jacuzzi tub, and also rock speakers outside for the outside hot tub..... both of these need to run off of the "B" speaker option or zone 2 option. Both are connected to Niles volume controls and can be turned of individually to avoid impedance issues. Although a 5.1 receiver that has speaker A/B options would work, some 7.1 systems allow the back 2 channels to be reconfigured for another zone. I actually like this option for cleaner power.

Back to the HDMI switching. I will be moving my Denon 2910 into the bedroom, replaced by the Oppo 983 in the main system. I like Pioneer receivers as well as Onkyo. The Onkyo's have a nice audio presentation to my ears, with clean power ratings. It is important however that I NOT have handshake issues with the HDMI switching. That will ruin/defeat the purpose of a switching receiver. I would like to stay in the $200 to $300 price range if possible. Remember, this is a bedroom system.

Thanks for your input.

If you don't need more than 1 HDMI input imo the Panasonic 57 would be the way to go for a bedroom setup. Small form factor, runs cool and has received excellent feedback on it's sound quality. Not alot of bells and whistles with it but for what your intentions are would be an excellent choice.

I actually need two HDMI in on the receiver, and one out to the plasma. Conected will be a DTV receiver and the DVD player.
