My set-up is PSB spekares and dual PSA XS30'S....


I have no interest in extra zones as i use a niles keypad system-


im interested in tuning up my speakers n subs... is the 150 wpc that much better then the 125 wpc.... anything else i should know??

The X4000 is a good deal. If I already had a 4520 I certainly wouldn't change it for the X4000. The 4520 is built to a noticeably higher standard than the X4000, if that matters to you. And the 4520 is rated for 4 ohm speakers, not that that matters to you, now at least, but does indicate more robust amps than the X4000's. I do not use the X4000's amps myself (I do have some 4 ohm speakers) so have no listening opinion of them, but it does make a decent feature-laden pre-pro.


So considering the 4520 costs ~double what the X4000 does, it's likely not the most cost/beneficial solution for you of the two.

Im running PSB T45's fronts c15 surrounds-. along with dual PSA's xs30's


here's the thing. I'm really looking to upgrade from my Pioneer to get better dual sub EQ... as I understand it the 4520 does not EQ dual subs the way the x4000 does. that brings me to the Denon 4311CI. tough to find I know but worth it over the x4000?? I want the best MultEQ® XT32 I can get. is the 4311CI ON par with the X4000 as far as MultEQ® XT32....

^ I believe that the XT32 and SubEQ HT on the X4000, the 4311, and the 4520 are identical, never heard otherwise here. That is the only reason why I got the X4000: the 4311 disappeared very quickly from stock here in Canada when I wasn't paying attention (gotta buy Denon here to get the warranty) so I missed it (waffling...), and the 4520 seemed a bit expensive since all I wanted was the improved Audyssey (vs my older Denon AVR). The XT32 is definitely worth it compared to the other versions of Audyssey.


Edit: there are other features/capabilities that the X4000 has that neither the 4311 or even the 4520 have. Don't underestimate them until you see what you can do with them. Then again, the 4311 and 4520 have "legacy" capability that you might be using now, that the X4000 might not have. Be sure to check that, it is one of the things that occasionally bugs me, and is more likely to catch you if you don't update AVRs that often.

Thanks. my understanding which may be wrong is the 4520 does not do multi sub... still trying to get an answer... for some reason on amazon crutchfield and such always mentions the x4000 with multi sub eq but never mentions the 4520 or the 4311 as having it....



ok correction. it seems that Audyssey Platinum is available on the 4520 and the x4000 but not on the 4311.... so I guess they all do dual sub....


so price wise it would be between the 4311 and x4000 if xt32 is the same on both....????

^ They all do multi subs, as long as "multi" means two: they have two sub connectors, more subs than that and you have to use Y-adapters to hook them up. Also the Audyssey menus and speaker menus etc. allow for two separate subs (or "arrays" of subs). Maybe you can look at pics of the AVR back panels on the Denon/Crutchfield sites, or here if you go to the first posts in the dedicated threads (possibly necessary for the 4311).

The 4520CI has the same version of Audyssey MultEQ XT32 and also Sub EQ HT (dual subs) and in fact was the first Denon AVR to include these features. It has a much more robust power supply that is capable of powering 4-ohm speakers at reference level volume which the X4000 is not able to do. It is currently Denon's flagship AVR with better components and the only current model manufactured in Japan.

If you have difficult (low impedance) speakers, the 4520CI is the better option otherwise an external amp would have to be added with the X4000. With easy to drive speakers, it depends on your requirements as each model can do a few things that the other cannot.

Sorry to ressurect this old thread -- but, in reference to the quote above, I was wondering what in particular that the X4000 can or does do that the 4520 does not. I currently have the X4000 and am thinking about the 4520 given the great deals out there now.
