Z1 to Z4 upgrade

1089 Views 11 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  KMyers
I just upgraded my Z1 to Z4 and i was wondering if someone could post a link or post the picture settings they are using with there BOC screen. This projector has so many more adjustments for picture than my old Z1 i would like to get a head start by using some settings that you guys have found to look good. I know there is a Z4 tweak thread but there is so much info in that thread it would take me a month to find what im looking for. So if someone has some settings handy that would be great. TIA

If you don't mind me asking what did it cost you to get it ISF calibrated? Also what are the differences in settings between what you gave me and now that it is calibrated? Thanks for the settings that should give me a good start.
Hey Cappra, I got a Z3 and am messing with my settings after i got my hi power, I have my Iris at 0 and my brightness at -20 something, do you reccomend upping the brightness and lowering the iris? When i lowered the iris i noticed i lost visibility in the picture in the shaded darker areas, was this because my brightness was lowered, i just want the blacks to look more black

Could you please provide us with a bit of discussion regarding your opinion of the PJ both before and after the calibration? I ask because I will also be getting my PJ (likely the Z5) calibrated shortly after I purchase it. If it's anything like my current ISF calibrated RPTV, I would expect that the differences are dramatic.

Let us know!
Before I had my unit calibrated, I was constantly messing with settings from this board and from anyone else that posted their numbers. When watching a dvd or ota broadcasts I was messing with the settings, seemed liked I was never happy or thought I was missing something! After I received my unit back it looked really good, but I thought I would notice a dramatic difference. Maybe my expectations were too high. However, after a few hours of viewing I started noticing differences in shadow details, blacks and general details. I waited about a week and returned one of my presets back to the pre calibration numbers and then viewed my reference dvd and it looked all wrong! I went back to the calibrated settings and have not touched them again and have no desire to fiddle around with them like before. I had a mail in calibration done, so there are some factors that have to be taken into account such as screen type, dvd player, ota tuner and other items that are out of the hands of the guy doing the calibration as opposed to having someone come to your house and doing it.

"I had a mail in calibration done"

How does this work; how do I get it done? Thanks

What do you think of your upgrade? I've got a Z1 right now and have been thinking about upgrading to the Z4. I'm torn between getting a Z4 now or to wait a year or so and pick up a 1080p projector after the prices come down a bit. I have to say that I'm pretty happy with my Z1 given it's low price.

It's a tough call. I was very happy with my Z1. Would still be using it if the lamp had not died. (excuse to upgrade) had it for three years and the lamp died at 1200 hours. It now sits in the closet gathering dust, what a waste.. although after having the Z4 since Oct. I could never go back, its a big improvement.

I would check to see if an ISF calibrator could come to your home before going the mail-in route. It's definitely not a bad idea if you can't get someone out but the PJ is just one element of the calibration process. They also spend a great deal of time with your DVD player and adjusting settings to match your screen.

Well im not sure what you payed for the Z1 but i got mine for a smokin deal from a friend when he upgraded to a Z3. Well this same friend bought the Z4 that is in my house right now. He thought his Z3 was better in some ways and not worth the money over the price of the Z3. So...i swooped in got it for a deal also. But i would say it is 100% better than the Z1. I have seen a few 1080p PJ's and i wouldnt waste my money on one unless i was just rich. Not that much better than any 720p PJ i have seen. I love the Z4 and would not go back, i will have this PJ for a long time. But that Z1 is a damn good PJ for the money for sure!
