I've had my Z2 (SE2HD), well, since it came out in 2004 (was released late 2003 I guess).

I've moved from VGA to HDMI/DVI with success, but have never used a non-hd source. My first satellite receiver had VGA and I used that on my PC. My latest sat receiver has HDMI and I use HDMI from my DVD player (Onkyo SP1000) and my HTPC (DVI). All of this uses a monoprice HDMI switch. I also have a component run to the projector that will display from both the sat receiver and DVD (a cheap purchase from Monoprice switched by my reciever).

I recently aquired a Nintendo Wii and have both the composite and the component cables. I initially hooked the component cables to my receiver and could not get a picture. I then hooked the Wii component cable directly to the projector's component input. Still nothing. I tried the composite cables... still nothing. The WII does work as I tried on the Sony TV we have in another room.

I also tried a portable DVD player with a composite output... Still nothing.

The Z2/2HD has two input "sections", one for DVI/VGA/Component (input2) and one for composite/s-video/component (input 1). I'm 100% sure that input1 is selected and I specify that video or component is selected based upon the connected cable. There is also another menu setting to force format (NTSC for composite) and resolution (for component, 480i and 480p), both default to Auto. I've tried all settings and this just won't work... I'm at my wits end.

I would expect the Wii to output either 480i or 480p through the component cable.

The firmware on my projector is 106 (latest I believe is 109).

Has anyone else had an issue like this? I know that composite is not a great connection-type, but does anyone have their projector working using this using a Wii or another source... if not, could someone with a Z2 please try?

Many thanks,

Darren

I've successfully connected the Wii to my SE2HD with a $15 component cable from Wal-Mart, three female-female RCA extenders and another 35 feet of component cable. (no component on my receiver yet) I had no issues. It came up on composite too, but didn't look so hot.

I didn't have to do anything special to make it work.. have you tried getting a VCR or something working on the projector? If you can, try to get the Wii to work through the VCR maybe?

Have you tried running a plain old dvd player into the same z2 input via component? This will let you be 100% sure it is not the source. I'd try connecting a dvd player via component to the same input on the z2 with everything else disconnected. Get that to work, then connect the wii. If it works with the dvd player then you know it is the wii. If it doesn't work with either the dvd player or your wii, then the z2 settings need ajusting. Did you try the wii via component to your tv, or just the tv antenna connector. Does the wii need to be told to output component? Lots of variables to play with here. The key will be to get your z2 working with a component source (like a dvd player) and get your wii working to another display device also via component. If you do this my bet is you'll then be able to get it to work.
