Any thoughts on Zaph's ZD5? http://zaphaudio.com/ZD5.html I've done a sub, thinking this would make a nice project. I was thinking of building larger floorstanders, but now think I'll just stick to small monitors, much more practical than humongous floorstanders... Should be nice speaker, the tweeter is pretty renown, so is the Rev woofer... The ZRT is also interesting, but a larger build... I current have Ascend Sierras if that makes any difference. Thoughts? Suggestions?

I haven't heard either but both of those projects are way beyond nice. I'd like to build them both someday myself.

When I finished my ZDT3.5 (still waiting for veneer) this Spring, I was pretty much amazed. They are a step down from ZRT in several areas but they sure work great in my 14 x 25 room. I use these for music and have a dedicated seating position about 12' back. Stunning and I also put my Sub away in the garage, not needed. In fact, I'm now considering building curved sided enclosures for them because they'll likely remain keepers for me in the future for home theater use at the very least.

If you've decided to go with a bookshelf and keep your sub, you've already answered your own question.

Actually, the Statements were the large floorstanders I was mentioning. But I thought the Zaph with Revs might be better... hmm... So you think the Statement monitors would be better than the ZD5? And the Ushers too? Why?

The ZD5 is supposed to go pretty low no? The sub ok, but I'm not factoring it really as I now have 2 systems and 1 sub, so either way, it could go with or without the sub, the Sierras go down to about 40hz, and I really don't crave more, and the ZD5, sealed, is supposed to go what?

Larger Dayton vs smaller Revelator, I'm not quite sure how the bass would compare... Either way, the statements are my eventual to build list too
Mainly for that open back mid & ribbon. Should be something really different than the 2 sealed 2 way ZD5..

[edit]Got bit mixed up with the graph... Low end won't be that low nor powerful on the ZD5... Statements monitors should better them easily for that... So that's a consideration, but yeah, with sub seems would be a lot better...

I just fired up a pair of sealed ZD5's last night, the bass is quite remarkable in my 13 X 17 room, which is also open to two adjacent rooms. IMHO, the graphs do not correlate to real world performance for these drivers. For music I won't be using a sub anymore
