Well, I recently bought the E44W48LCD off of craigslist for 50 bucks. The lady I bought it from told me it needed a new bulb (seeing as how the orange bulb indicator is on, which mean the bulb is almost dead.) Now I didn't quite look hard enough before I bought it but when I got it home and turned it on, there was some blueish haze in the middle of the screen along with blueish spots. She told me it's because of the bulb, but I don't think a bulb will automatically fix this? Am I correct in thinking this or could it truly be the bulb? It does have a really green tint to it and when I looked at the bulb it looked used. I will get some pictures up tomorrow and maybe we can go from there. Really hoping it's not the light wheel. If so, could I possibly get lucky with them fixing it for free or not really? All advice is appreciated! Thanks!!

The pictures of it

The bulb got ALMOST 15,000 hours on it when I looked. It also has a hazy circle in the middle.

Just put the bulb in with, what do you know, no success at all. So apparently it's the color wheel I'm guessing. Is there any chance they will fix it at all since I just blindly bought it off craigslist?

No color wheel. Yours is a three-lcd rear projection unit. Look for a service manual, I found mine online for free somewhere. Find the website 'sonylcdrptvproblems' for a primer on the technology and likely problem. Nevermind that it's a Sony site, all the LCD RP's are similar and are plagued with similar problems caused by heat.

Second, do a search on AVSforum for 'polarizing filter', or 'polarizer filter', and read all the hits. Some folks have done very good work in sourcing materials for fixing these. If you are lucky your problem will be limited to the filters and not the LCD panels themselves.
