Zenith Pro 900 problemI

294 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Topanga
I have a Zenith Pro 900 with a Draper clarion 92" screen and a NRS. When I have a light colored image, sky shot or hockey ice, there is a light rainbow pattern near the middle of the screen. The rainbow is subtle but still a major annoyance. The pattern appears on all sources, dvd, sat etc. Would it be the screen or the projector? Any ideas or solutions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Rick,

I also have the Zenith 900 X and I use a faroudja NRS for 800 X 600 on an 80 inch 16 X 9 Stewart Screen. I don't have that issue. However, is it visible to you when you look into the lenses? If so that elimiantes the screen. Some screen makes do add artifacts depending on gain. Also, if necessary I can get you to some folks that know this unit extremely well both as consultants and at Zenith. I really enjoy my unit now after making changes in the screen and scaler. Let me know.
It is the screen. What is the gain?
Thanks guys,

Jim, the gain is 1.3 and it's streched mounted on an aluminum frame and wall mounted. (16:9) The screen is about 4 years old. Any other feedback?

Thanks

Rick
I would suggest that you buy a few pieces of white cardboard at your local CVS, or something and tape them together. This should give you a big enough surface to diagnose whether or not your screen is the problem. As long as the cardboard is totally matte, you will NOT get hotspotting no matter what. This'll only cost a couple of bucks and it's an easy diagnosis.

If you're still unable to resolve this problem, you can feel free to trade projectors with me. I'll pay shipping. :)
I think the problem is the screen. This is very common. The screen surface hotspots separately for the red green and blue tubes. This is what you are seeing.
Thanks for your follow up Jim. Is replacing my screen the solution? Any preferences?
