With a couple of extra speakers in hand, I decided to make use of the zone2 feature on my B&K Ref20. After connecting up a power amplifier, I have encountered fairly severe problems making the zone2 stuff select inputs correctly. I've spent at least an hour fiddling with this and I cannot fathom what I am doing wrong. I'm wondering if anyone else has used this, espeically if they've solved the problems.

First I need to mention that this unit has been working for over a year in zone1--quite well, in fact. It's controlled by a Marantz RC5000, which is to say that I understand the functionality of the Ref20 well enough to program the RC5k. I'd never turned on Zone2 until last night.

First, I programmed the original B*K remote to operate zone2 per the enclosed directions. It in fact is on the zone2 channel, because power and mute work quite correctly. (And the B&K 3140 power amp correctly is sensing the control signal for zone2; when I turn on zone2 in the pre/pro, the matching power amp powers up as it should.)

Now for the weird part. http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/confused.gif when I select preset 4, it correctly plays via the tv-v3 input from a vcr. When I select preset 5, it correctly plays via the built-in tuner. BUT... when I select 1, I get no output whatsoever. Checking the configuration of preset 1 in zone 2, it says that it's listening to the CD input. I believe this is supposed to refer to the input marked CD on the back of the pre/pro. At least, this is what happens in Zone1. selecting preset 2 also doesn't work; this one is supposed to take input from the dvd player via the input marked DVD. These inputs work correctly in zone1, I am assuming that they are supposed to work without some other step in zone2. Apparently my assumption is not entirely correct, but I cannot for the life of me figure out where I'm going wrong.

Help?

Thanks! That was it--all of the inputs that were digital were failing, of course. And VCRs and FM tuners are analog. I connected the CD's analog outputs to the pre/pro, and voila! CD sound in zone2. http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

I can't swear that this isn't documented in the manual, but I can say that if it is, it must be easy to miss. I've read the manual a couple of times!
