The short story - using Zoom Player and ffdshow as per recommendations from various threads on this forum. CPU usage is averaging 80%. PQ is perfect, to my eye anyway. Problem is the video freezes every 20-30 minutes - CPU spikes to 100% and boom, picture freezes. When I take ffdshow out of the equation CPU runs around 18% with spikes to 25%.

I'm guessing this is some background process but I can't figure out what it is. I've searched the various threads here for "freeze", "video freeze" etc. but found nothing.

Any ideas on the 20% CPU spikes? I guess I'll just notch back the resize until I hear back on possible background processes.

Still muddlin'

Yes, and yes, I have the Abstract filter in front of ffdshow and have done the regedit to set the value to 0.

OK. Beats me then. Perhaps verify that the Abstract filter is indeed registered and connected in the graph? Verify its operational by using a non-zero value? Sounds like the classic WinDVD/ZP/ffdshow problem in that video will freeze whenever a frame is dropped.

Well, thanks for the reply. What codec do you use?
