What Do You Want to Know About the Performance of the LG W7 OLED TV?

Next Wednesday, I’m heading to San Francisco for a deep dive into the LG W7 OLED TV. In addition to a product briefing, I’ll have one all to myself for five or six hours to measure, calibrate, and examine as it displays real-world content. And of course, I’ll report my findings right here on AVS Forum. It won’t be a full review, since I won’t have days or weeks with the set, but I’ll be able to conduct whatever tests I want over the course of an afternoon.

As I prepare for my evaluation, I’m curious what you want to know about the performance of the W7. Of course, I’ll be looking at things like color gamut and volume, peak brightness, near-black performance, HDR, motion handling, and upscaling. But there must be other performance parameters that many AVS Forum members would like to know about. So I invite you to post your investigative priorities in this thread.

I’m sure some members are concerned with input lag, which is important only for video gaming. I’m not a gamer by any means, so this particular parameter has never been important for me. But there are many avid gamers out there for whom input lag is critical. Unfortunately, I don’t have a Leo Bodnar input-lag tester, and there is no time to get one before I go. Can anyone suggest another way to reliably measure input lag that does not require special hardware?

Also, I’d love to know what real-world content you recommend for evaluating various aspects of performance, such as shadow detail, motion handling, and upscaling. Of course, I have my own list of such content, but I’m always looking for more “torture-test” material. So I invite you to post your favorite test clips on UHD Blu-ray, HD Blu-ray, and even DVD (which would be used mostly to test upscaling).

I’m told there will be comparable models from the 2016 and 2017 lines—for example, perhaps a G6 and G7—to examine side by side during the morning product briefing, and I might be able to look at them more closely during the afternoon evaluations. So if there are any questions about comparing the two, please post them here.

I look forward to taking a close look at LG’s W7 OLED TV and sharing my findings on AVS Forum, so stay tuned!
