This “critic’s consensus” translates directly to the PS4 selections found in this list! The only difference is if the metacritic score is a numerical tie, I allowed the “user” rating to determine the final ranking.

Perhaps the greatest game of all time, this epic masterpiece is an adult playground that offers up a wide variety of gaming experiences with an obvious focus on creating mayhem. You can race, you can fly, you can join teams and rob banks, or run a nightclub. Talk about aging gracefully, GTA V Online lets you do all this in a still-expanding world populated by other players, just be careful because paid upgrades to your character can get expensive.

An all-time classic game brought up-to-date for the PlayStation 4, The Last of Us Remastered takes place in a zombie filled dystopian apocalyptic future. This remastered version includes improved graphics as well as some gameplay enhancements.

With engaging characters and an anime aesthetic, along with interesting themes, this captivating role playing game is an acknowledged masterpiece in its genre. Persona 5 Royal takes place in Tokyo and features the ” Phantom Thieves of Hearts.” If you seek something more than your typical shoot ’em up give this fifth installment in the Persona series a try.
This game is essentially an enhanced version of persona five, it features a new character, more plot, new music, PlayStation 4 support and more.

The third person action-adventure game God of War is actually the eighth installment in the God of war series. This installment centers around Norse mythology and lets you play God character Kratos who wields a magic battle axe.

6. Persona 5 (2016)
Persona 5 is from the only game series to appear twice on this list, along with Persona 5 Royal. Although there are many similarities to the newer release, the games provide a different experience and purists may wish to experience the “original” version of this game. It also happens to cost less.

Here’s an action-adventure game that looks great, sounds fantastic and is a ton of fun to play.

This open world stealth game was released in 2015 to much critical acclaim. It’s detailed open world and cinematic presentation garnered it plaudits from the review press. The theme is war, the timeframe is the Cold War in 1984.

Here is an action role-playing game that’s been showered in praise. Released in 2015, This Gothic, Victorian era action role-playing game features a storyline where the main character “Hunter” works his way through puzzles and mysteries while also participating in some combat.

10. Journey (2012)
Journey is the oldest game in the list, originally released for PS3 in 2012 but also released for PS4 in 2015. The games most unique element is how it creates opportunities for anonymous strangers to help each other progress through the game. If you had enough of violence, explicit games and want to chill with a game that’s off the beaten path, aesthetically beautiful and offers the opportunity for generating an emotional connection between strangers, try Journey.
