Things are moving quickly due to the coronavirus pandemic, and home entertainment will play a part in allowing people to social distance without going crazy. Today, Universal Studios announced that a selection of current theatrical release movies will become available to view on-demand at home this week.
Movies transitioning immediately to on demand include “The Invisible Man, The Hunt, and Emma.” Additionally, “Trolls World Tour” by Dreamworks Animation will be release on April 10.
This news follows the recent announcement from Disney to release Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker a few days early on March 13 instead of March 17, and Frozen 2 on March 15 (three months early).
Is the end of going to movie theaters going to create a new reality where A-list, tentpole movies are released directly to on-demand? No doubt, if you have to hunker down—as many of us are now required to—catching new release movies on a home theater or living room AV system is an unforeseen twist to the current crisis. Hunker down, make some popcorn and stay well.
