New from Yamaha is the MusicCast Bar 400, the first soundbar from the company that allows you to use add-on wireless MusicCast speakers as surrounds, for a true 5.1 listening experience. The system consists of the soundbar plus a wireless subwoofer and when it ships, it will sell for $499.95.
This new soundbar is compatible with either a pair of Yamaha’s MusicCast 20 ($229.95) speakers or else either one or two MusicCast 50 ($499.95) speakers. Yamaha claims that it offers higher performance sound versus competing products in its class, as well as support for more surround-sound technologies and connectivity options than you typically find at its price point.
As a MusicCast soundbar, wireless connectivity is front and center on the feature list. You get Wi-Fi with multi-room streaming capability as well as Bluetooth. the system directly supports popular streaming services and offers voice control through Amazon Alexa devices.
Yamaha’s MusicCast Bar 400 handles high-res audio with 192 kHz/24-bit resolution and incorporates an HDMI input, and HDMI output with ARC, plus optical-digital and analog audio inputs. This soundbar can process surround-sound encoded in Dolby Digital as well as DTS Digital Surround. It also incorporates DTS Virtual:X post-processing that synthesizes 3D virtual surround that includes height effects.

In addition to watching movies in 5.1 surround-sound, with MusicCast, listeners are able to enjoy high quality streaming music as part of the whole house multiroom system. Using the MusicCast controller app, anyone can stream thousands of Internet radio stations, content found on a local area network plus mobile devices, as well as directly supported services that include Spotify, Pandora, siriusXM, Tidal, Deezer, and Napster.
Yamaha says the MusicCast Bar 400 soundbar with wireless subwoofer will be available in September of this year.
