that is what i was thinking as well, but having a list of a few hundred projects indexed in one place should be a good start.

Are you planning to categorize them...slotted, ported, sealed, IB, etc...cost...features...complexity of design....?

This might have been what I was referring to when I wondered how much you were willing to bite off and chew on!

Maybe a brief description (design, cost, purpose, complexity, performance, etc) by either you or the creator that offers a brief synopsis of the design-build after each entry...could be nice!

And to quote Coldplay (who haven't served much purpose since their second album), "Nobody said it was easy...No one ever said it would be this hard"

At least their trite lyrics are being put to good use.

hi jason, my thoughts were that it could evolve over time. first, we could start with just getting some of the links to interesting project in one place. then, we can categorize according to some of the dimensions that you mention.

that would be cool if folks could help out with putting that together. however, i suspect that just having a couple hundred projects indexed in one place would be the core product. i am kind of thinking that the resource is directed to people who are looking for ideas. then, when they find one that they like, they can use the diy/subwoofer forum to ask questions, get details, query about modifications, etc.

This is a great idea! I think we/I can only go back a few years in accessing our Threads though. All my posted projects are in the Kibosh tank. I only have pics..

Yeah it looks like it? I remember David bringing something up in the past regarding the time AVS would be archiving posts and Threads. Well, I'm working on a few new projects that might be of interest?

Once again though, I really think a Thread like this is needed, or should I say the polite thing to do for the new guys on the block

We all get, or have received plenty of help ourselves.

that sucks. looking forward to seeing your projects.

in other work that i have done, i have found it useful to "review my notes" every so often because sometimes i don't appreciate something in a design until i revisit it with additional understanding. for example, i happened upon this site:

his solution is elegant. he has used a clamshell design for soffit mounting/disguising his subwoofers. the clamshell design minimizes vibration, so his whole house doesn't shake when the bass gets pumping. that's definitely a design principal for the advanced class. also, his built-in soffits allow for 8 subwoofers in his living area while preserving his marriage.

i'm hoping that there will be something in this for everybody.

Eventually the "body of work assembled and classified" in one place will produce it's own set of new standards and results. All work and study has been that way over the Millenia. It's part of the "Scientific Method".
