I nail it from the faces of the perimeter board then push the riser into position. Start by hailing the stingers to the board that goes along the back. When they are all attached drag it flush to the wall then attach the front perimeter board, I have a picture but for some reason can't attch right now.

I strung 2x10's off of a 2x12 perimeter. I put 5 deck screws through the outside face of the perimeter boards into the strings and used PL Premium on the ends of the 2x10's where they touched the 2x12's. I also took end pieces 8-12" high and put in mid span supports that were 10" wide. Those I attached with PL Premium and 4 deck screws

I think that with the mid span support, even if a an end were to have all of the nails cut and glue broken, the string wouldn't move.

 

got a picture attached, there is enough room behind the back board to get my framing nailer in the gap. Once all the boards are secured I slide it to the back wall using the front board as a sliding rail.

 

^^ this is what I did, but it can be a little more complex if the riser runs wall to wall and you're not careful: just think it through, especially the corner joints. That is to say, is the side rail (as in BIG's pic) longer than the end piece? Which one screws into which? Totally doable, but also can be messed up, if you're not thinking all the way through it.

 

The riser did end up wall to wall (Rawlinsway). I Like to build the riser in bite size sections rather than trying to build wall to wall at once.

Thanks for the discussion. My riser will be snug up against three walls, so my going-in plan was to build in place rather than pushing it back post-assembly. Then putting on a couple of layers of OSB.

BTW, what space (if any) do folks leave between the decking and walls? 1/4", or does it even matter?
