Hi!

I have an Onkyo SKS-HT530 set with one surround speaker missing, so I intend to run a 6.1 configuration with one surround back.
Could someone please help with the placement?

I draw the room with the fix furniture to scale for visualisation. The same picture is attached.

The left side here is a sliding door wardrobe, so the sidewalls aren't suitable for speaker placement.
Heights given below are measured from the ground and the interval is the height of the described speaker.
The center will be above the television, 167-183 cm / 66-72 in from the ground.

1, Should I place the L/R fronts...
(A) farther apart (about 60 degrees) but high up (above the higher shelf 2, min. 210-254 cm / 82-100 in) or...
(B) closer to each other and lower (above the lower shelf 1, min. 107-151 cm / 42-60 in)?
Is it OK if right is on foam on the shelf but the other is wall-mounted? (same distance and angle)

2, Should I rotate them towards the center of the room?
It's a separate question for front and rear L/R speakers.

3, Should I tilt them downwards?
I plan to place the back speaker essentially face down, near the ceiling. Otherwise it would be too close. But what about the other five?

4, How high up should I put the L/R surround speakers?
110-137 cm / 43-54 in is the minimum. Different hights require different rotation? What's the best?

+1, Any ideas for DIY speaker placement? Only the rear speakers have one nail-mount. I have a drill for the walls. Can I get around buying expensive stands?

If there are any other ideal options that went over my head, please mention.
Thank you really much in advance for answering any of these questions!

OP: I’ve done some calculations using Dolby standards and it helped just a little bit.
- (A) placement is barely too wide for the maximum distance between front L/R (can be solved)
- (B) is perfectly on the minimum distance
- with (B), there’s a height limitation of 184 cm / 72 in for the surrounds
