Hello all,
Hoping for a bit of quick help. Towards the end of 2014, I purchased the Denon AVR-X2000 for HT use in my condo. Never had the opportunity to set it up. It has sat in a box since. Wife and I recently settle into a new home and I'm in the process of setting up the A/V in the living room, which will be used for general TV use, some movies and music. TV will be a Kuros plasma that I am hopeful is still in working order. I originally intended on just purchasing a good sound bar set up but, seeing as I have almost all of a 5.1 set up lying around, I think it will be most cost effective to use what I have and I believe it will ultimately provide better overall sound than a soundbar set up.

What I am looking for here is if the X2000 is still even still relevant technology wise. This will be used whenever the TV is on and we have Xfinity for cable service. We stream netlfix, amazon prime video and I occasionally play an xbox game or two. Not looking for Atmos but, I also don't want to loose video quality by using it. I will be building a dedicated HT set up in the great room with an OLED 77", so if I can get away with not having to purchase a new receiver for the living room, it would be ideal.

If more detail is needed, let me know! And appreciate any/all help!

The x2000 will be perfect for your Kuro plasma, you'd want a newer AVR for your OLED since this one cannot pass a 4K copy protected signals nor does it have Dolby Vision and HDR compatibility.

So fine for the Kuro, not so much for the 77" OLED unless you never plan to use 4K sources.

I am still using a much older Denon AVR-3808CI in my living room with my (also older but still pretty decent) LG LED backlit 1080p LCD TV and aside from it not having Atmos or Audyssey MultEQ XT 32, I really don't have an urge to upgrade it. It works like it's supposed to, and sounds good doing it. My only real 'gripe' about it is that it only has 4 HDMI inputs, but that's a minor issue. So yeah, the 2000 should be just fine with the Kuro and will handle every audio codec that will come from cable, streaming and XBOX (except Atmos and DTS:X obviously which you said you didn't care about anyway) now and for the foreseeable future.

As far as the soundbar goes, unless you just can't do separate speakers for some reason, I never recommend a soundbar. Even the really "good" ones (and expensive) are compromised in some way and that is typically with poor stereo separation (the speakers in a sound bar are only so far apart) and a less full and robust sound as most soundbars have little 3" or 4" drivers. You just can't get very dynamic sound from drivers that small let alone anything resembling bass or midbass. There is a reason, most manufacturers use this size speaker as a midrange. With separate speakers, you can place them as you want and can get much better imaging and a wider soundstage and they can have a much fuller sound. So I would skip the soundbar and buy a good set of bookshelves and use what you already have for center and surround duties. When you say "almost all of a 5.1 setup lying around" what does that mean? What do you currently have and what do you not like about them?

Great information, thanks!

The current equipment that I have is as follows:
Kef R100 Fronts
Klipsch KLF C7 (CC)
Pioneer SP-BS22LR (rears)
HSU VTF-3 MK5 Sub

I also have a set of Artison Masterpiece LCR's that mount to the Kuros but, I'm not positive I should use them. When I said most of a 5.1 set up, I have all of the components, I'm just not necessarily 100% happy with all of the individual pieces. They were not purchased with the sole intent of creating a HT system. I do however, think they will work and allow me to spend the real money in the great room.

Would love to hear some feedback or thoughts on the sutff I have and what the best way to utilize it is!

Thanks!
