DMR-EZ48V Works perfect and then boom, "NO READ" error!

Just bought this unit used. It was working perfectly for a few days, burning old VHSs to DVDs. Then today I decided to burn a VHS onto a DVD+R DL. Everything was working perfect until the VHS was done playing and I couldn't stop the recording. It just kept saying "COPYING." Pressed every button on the unit and the remote to no avail. It was completely frozen. I had to press the reset button on the unit with a paper clip which finally reset it. Ever since then, no matter what I do get the stupid "NO READ" error. This billion dollar company needs to have a fix page for this. Just googling it I see pages and pages of people complaining of the same error across their units.

Anyway, enough of the ranting. How do I fix this? Only thing I can think of is unplugging it for a few days,

Unfortunately, I'd say your laser has failed. It's not really a DIY project and procuring the parts are all but impossible at this state. There is an AVS forum member called MICKINCT who has the parts to fix your DVDR but would require shipping your unit to CT. He does a great job and is very reliable.
I've also had a couple of my Panasonic DVDRs fail after issues with using DL media which is why I never use DL media in my standalone DVDRs anymore, computers are OK to use DL blanks but I personally am just not going to risk it, especially on an EZ-48v which are kind of fragile and expensive to begin with.

UPDATE

I managed to find a salvaged and working VXY1961 drive from an EZ47. I ended up swapping the PCBs from my broken VXY2010 drive on my EZ48. Thus, a working VXY1961 drive was put in my EZ48 with the previous VXY2010 PCB.

Results:

DVD-R, DVD+R read, play, and burn => Work perfectly and super happy about this!
DVD-RAM, DVD movies from the market => Sadly, results in "No read" error after trying to read them for a minute or so.

Questions:
Any ideas how to get my blank DVD-RAM discs working for burning purposes? I could care less about the DVD movies as I have other DVD players.

Also, I read the drive swapping thread here on AVSforum and thought I read it correctly in terms of having to replace the PCBs. I am wondering now if I should have the kept the original PCB with the VXY1961 drive?? I read some of the EZ48 service manual which indicated that the PCB holds the drive calibration data and is essentially married to the drive, which I am thinking may be the cause of my "No read" errors with DVD-RAM and market pressed DVD movies.

Did you get this resolved. My DMR-EZ48V has just developed the same problem. It tries to read a disc 4 times and then just states “No read”. I managed to obtain a salvaged drive VXY1978 and tried replacing just that but the same thing happens.
Any ideas?
