I think they'll ultimately have more success when they can release a full series set (assuming, to your point, that they get that far). Before long those things always sell at steep discounts. but yeah that could take a while.

And the PQ obviously remains to be seen. That said, the blu rays look great. Heck, even the HBO streams look great via my AppleTV. Gives me hope that the UHD may look even better, i.e. great source material quality.

I believe they are dropping the ball by not coming out with the whole series in a UHD box set.

I would have zero issues dropping the coin for the entire series now......but for just 10 episodes and then another year maybe for season 2 ?? I'll pass.

I'll wait for the end of the series to get the Dolby Vision full series box set, and then re-watch it from the start a few years down the line, after I have a decent Dolby Vision compatible projector. It's not all about lumens, because Dolby Cinemas are graded to 100 nits so there's no reason you can't get that on a home projector using dynamic tone mapping. If anything, projectors need Dolby Vision more than TVs, if only for the dynamic metadata aspect. Or HDR10+.

I’m only going to buy the first few seasons as I was planning on buying them again to get Dolby Atmos like the later seasons. Since I find the quality so high on the Blu-Rays I’ll be happy with the early seasons on 4K and the rest on Blu-Ray.

Ugh, I already have all the steelbook sets with the magnets and since they have Atmos, I doubt I'll double dip on them unless they go dirt cheap in the future. Guess the real question is do I follow my OCD and get the final season (when it's released) in the same packaging as my previous to complete the set, or wait for the inevitable 4K release of it. And agree with the above, they should've waited for the complete series to be finished to release them all 4K as an all in 1 box set.

I too will wait for the UHD/4K set. I'll try to find a few neighbors to go in $$$. To keep the cost down. I will mostly binge and not watch it again for many years....** unless I find in 2nd hand in BR-- I don't think they filmed it - with UHD/4K in mind.
I even read all the books-

It was nice getting the final budget Game of Thrones season 4 just to get the Atmos soundtrack. I am pretty satisfied so far, but how many seasons have been finished at 2K? All of them?

While some applaud HDR as the be all end all, I see a lot of digital trickery and iffy decisions. Some good, some bad.

With the bluray Game of Thrones being most if not all in 2K finished (again I don't know for sure), I file it under good enough and save 4K for 4K source content.
