I got both a new TV (Sony X90L) and new AVR (Denon X1800H) today. I set up the TV on its own, everything was fine. Connected the AVR to my speakers and the AVR to the TV (using the ARC output on the Denon and the eARC input on the Sony, HDMI3). When I plugged in the AVR, it turned itself on and the TV switched to its input. But the screen did not show the Setup Assistant, just a blank screen with the Denon logo. Thinking maybe I messed up somewhere, I restarted the Denon. The TV is still set to HDMI3, but now with the Denon on the TV says there is no signal. The connection seems fine, as I then tried streaming something and got surround sound as expected. Also, the TV can see that my PS5 exists which is connected via the Denon. The Denon quick start guide suggests pressing the setup button if the assistant doesn’t pop up, but this presupposes that the TV is displaying the Denon’s output it seems. Is the model defective? Is my HDMI cable (2.1 certified etc etc) bunk? Am I an idiot?

Try unplugging the TV for a few min. EARC and CEC still have a few bugs and get dazed and confused easily. Just powering off the TV doesn't reset anything as it goes into standby (same with the AVR). Unplugging one or both will force a processor restart.

I have a similar setup (Denon 2800 AVR and Sony TV). You need to use the Sony Remote and hit the sources button, select HDMI 3 (eARC/ARC), then select Setup on the Denon Remote. I get no signal from the Denon for a moment until it switched to the AppleTV connected to the Denon but the Denon Setup came right up when I hit Setup on the Remote.
