Move from KEF Q series to Klipsch RP series?

Thinking of making the switch from KEF to Klipsch

Would be replacing the Front LCR with Klipsch but keeping the surrounds as KEF

Has anyone had experience of both these brands? - would be very interested to hear how the Klipsch RP series - especially RP 504C or RC 64-III compare to a KEF Q600c and how the RP 6000 series compare to the KEF Q750s

Use would be mainly for movies, running off a Yamaha A3050 amp.

Room's not massive; priority is quality and clarity of dialogue at lower listening levels.

Cheers

side step,

you'd be trading imaging and soundstage for dynamics

Not sure if its worth it since its a side move. The Q series is an excellent series and I'm not sure you would gain much with the RP series except for dynamics. I would instead focus on saving up and upgrading from the Q series to the R series at some point; that would be more of a worthwhile upgrade.

Edit: Or work on your subwoofer or room acoustic treatment.

As mentioned above, there would be very little benefit. What don't you like or looking to improve from your current setup?

thanks for the feedback so far!

There is nothing particularly wrong with my set up - I would like more center presence and the ability to discern dialogue clearly at lower volumes. Basically more cinema-like dialogue.

The Klipsch center channels (e.g. RP504C) seem to have rave reviews on Amazon.

Thought I might as well replace the whole set of fronts for matching purposes.

Local hifi dealer has a clearance offer on the discontinued KEF R600 at around 600quid...tempted at first but its in white and rest of the system is in black so would stick out like a sore thumb. Had it been in black I wouldn't have continued to scratch the upgrade itch :frown:

If I don't replace with the Klipsch then I would go for the Q750s as front upgrades.

An R600c for 600 quid, I wouldn't care if it's pink. A nice coat of paint could resolve that issue.

How is the center placed? A picture would be very helpful.

Unfortunately, I'm not very familiar with Yamaha receivers. You should have a function like night mode or a way of bumping up the dialogue level like you can on Denon/Marantz AVR's. Hopefully the Yamaha folks will chime in.

I'd stick with the KEFs.

tilt the center channel UP and if you can throw a small carpet/rug between your tv/seats

I have 2 Atmos setups, one with KEF, the other one with Klipsch speakers.
As others said, there's no point replacing your set. You need to bump the volume of your center channel to get a better dialogue channel on Kef (I have Q650c and had T301c before paired with Dn x4500h avr), I raised mine by 4db (without counting the gain per source I apply). Also I turn off dynamic volume.
And I have a 65 LG OLED sitting right on my Q650c. I have put rubber bands (below and on the top of the speaker) just to be sure that the tv doesn't move "easily".
I love both sets hence why I have both (in different rooms).

I have a thread going at the moment myself questioning whether to go with the KEF Q series or the Klipsch RP series.

I was finally able to listen to the KEFs in person today and the Q950s blew me away.

I went to the other store which stocked Klipsch immediately afterwards and listened. Whilst it wasn't a direct AB comparison due to different rooms and potentially hookups (waiting on an email response from the KEF stockist store to confirm what it was hooked up to), the KEFs seems incomparably better to me.

The RP8000f were good for most songs I compared but the Q950s were just way better. The RP8000f sounded really bad on one song - Turn to Stone by ELO.

If one of your goals is center channel/dialog intelligibility before doing any thing else I would pull the center channel forward an inch or so (angle it upward a bit - I know you don't have much room) and get a good heavy rug. Eliminating some of the floor bounce you are getting off the tile and wood in front of the speakers may yield significant improvements. If you do this and you are using room correction re-run that after the changes.

***I didn't realize sigpig and mcgallant beat me to it. I understand upgrade-itis but I would seriously throw a rug (or even as a temporary test some blankets/towels/pillows- something) on the floor. You're probably hearing more of your room than you are your speakers. I'd start with that before purchasing anything - except perhaps a stand or wall mount for the TV that would allow you to raise the center channel. Getting that center farther from the floor and closer to the height of the mains is going to benefit your soundstage. You might find performance in your existing speakers you didn't know was there.

I just noticed the Yamaha is directly adjacent to the center. You're not necessarilly cooking your Yamaha but it's probably on simmer. If you can't get the center on the top shelf moving the Yamaha to the lower shelf would allow better ventilation probably extending the life of the unit but having it up against the center is probably having acoustic effects as well. The center is "boxed in" on the top bottom, and left, while wide open on the right. If you can't move it to the upper shelf, moving the Yamaha allowing the same open-ness on the left as the right of the center may yield some improvement.
Thanks for the feedback! I'm moving house shortly and can set up the home cinema with the center speaker on top, and place the TV on top of that... The Yamaha should then have more breathing space.

Can stick a rug in front of the TV too.

I also bought a pair of Q750s which I can use for the front (they're stuck in Hong Kong port at the moment and won't be here till end of the month :( ) . The Q300s I think I will use as front height 'ATMOS' speakers (they would look a bit awkward dangling face down from the ceiling otherwise). Otherwise I can use the Q300s as surround speakers instead of the 3001 series 'eggs' and use the latter as front height?

thanks guys, so decision made :D ...keeping the Q600C ...checked out the Wali TV stand on Amazon but the height gap between the base and how high the stand can go does not seem enough for the height of the KEF speaker without it obstructing some of the picture.

Might just need to place the TV on the speaker.

Have decided to upgrade the Q300s to Q750s ...or should I go for the 950s...room's not that big so they may be overkill...also have a SVS PB2000 sub doing the heavy lifting.

Should I use the Q300s as front height ATMOS speakers or surround speakers (and instead use my KEF eggs as front height? ...currently all my surrounds are the KEF eggs)

A 2nd PB-2000 would be more beneficial than Q750's. The 750's will have a little more presence, but you're crossing over at 80-90hz so not reaping the full benefits. a 2nd sub will smooth out bass throughout the room and add up to 6dbs down low.

I would use the 300s for surround and your Eggs for Atmos.
