I'm putting together a 5.1 system for my Samsung 1080p DLP TV. I'm going to use it as my music system too. I just ordered the Yamaha RX-V2600 for a receiver (130w / channel). For speakers, I've been trying to keep the total price under $7-800. Divided up, I'm aiming for $2-300 for the front, $100 for center, $150 for sub, $200 for rear.
This is what I've found in that range so far that fits my needs:
o Sub- Sony SAWM500 12†150W- $150
o Center- Sony SSCN550H 150W- $80
o Front- Yamaha NS125FP 120W - $200
o Rear- ??? Don't know. Must be small - $200
So, a couple of questions:
1) What other front speakers are out there around $200? Given the receiver puts out 130W / channel, I have a some concern that the speakers are only 120W. Is this a big deal? What else is available for this price w/ a higher power rating?
2) What are some ideas for rear channel speakers at $200 or less. These will be ceiling mounted (not in-ceiling) and need to be as small as possible, due to their mount location (one is in a corner near a shelf and wine rack). Small size is important here.
3) Is it considered a big deal to mix and match brands of speakers? The Yamaha NS series has a center channel speaker around the same price so it would match the fronts I'm looking at. But rather than the Sony's 150w it would be 120w. I figured a higher rating would equate to a cleaner sound and that would be more important than a brand match...
