OK, I'm a little confused on this one. I got the RX-V659 to replace a Yamaha HTR-5650 receiver, mainly because I got the XM connect and play. It is supposed to have more power, as well as cleaner power, than the older 5650. The thing is, though, with the same speakers and components (Polk T90e front's, BA center and Definitive Tech rears), the sound is no where near as "loud" coming out of the speakers. Is there something that I'm missing? I've adjusted the speaker levels in auto and manual, checked the volume trim for each input and I just can't make sense out of it.
Just as a point of reference, nothing scientific or exact, on the older 5650 a volume level of say -50 (in DD watching a movie) equates to about a -31 on the 659. Does this make any sense to anyone? Is this normal or is there something that I don't have set right.
The only thing I haven't checked is speaker impedance (all the speakers I have are 8ohm) in the advanced setup. The book says it is set to a default of 8ohms, so I never checked to see what it is set to, but I can't imagine that being the problem. Do I potentially have a fault with this new receiver, should I return it and get a different one?
Any help, advice or insight on this would be extremely helpful. I have about 11 days to figure this out before my 30 day return policy expires.
Thanks.
Shawn
