For anyone that has ordered directly from Onkyo or on their mailing list; they are offering the TX-RZ830 for $499 by calling the Onkyo USA number and selecting option 1 (Sales). The TX-NR686 is $299 and the TX-NR383 is $185.

Feature-wise, the 830 is similar in that they both support Atmos and DTS:X, both have full speed HDMI inputs in the rear. One supports Alexa, the other does not. Around these parts, Denon is the favorite because of audyssey whereas Onkyo uses AccuEQ.

that is just high-level. You really have to do a side by side specification comparison. I owned a Denon 3100x. The 3100 is absolutely ugly compared to the Onkyo. And the images of the 4500 but not much different. In case cosmetics or important.

The 4500 usually goes on sale at Fry's.

I attached a comparison pic of my rz920 vs my Denon 3100. Just as a comparison of size and looks. In my opinion, the Onkyo sounds just as good as the Denon. So go for whatever is cheaper.

The TX-NR686 is $299
NewEgg Flash Sale of the ONKYO TX-NR686 for $349 with $60 Promo Gift Card (effectively $289) with free shipping ends in a little over ten hours from the time of this post.

This seems to be the Onkyo equivalent of the Pioneer VSX-932 of which I have two, each of which cost less that this on sale. Nevertheless it's a good deal on a 7.2 receiver which supports almost all the current encodings.

Massdrop has the 9.2 Onkyo TX-NR787 for $400 shipped.

Got the email from Onkyo with the same info as OP. I have currently 11 year old TX-SR605. I recently bought house and have been using the old receiver and bose speakers in my home theater. I have started looking to replace the speakers with Klipsch RP series and was looking for a receiver. Seems like TX-NR686 and TX-RZ830 are both good and with my current setup i can go upto 5.2.2. Given my future configuration is it worth $200 for RZ830 or NR686 is good for my needs? Any help in this regard is greatly appreciated.

That is really a hard question to answer. The NR686 can drive your current and soon to be Klipsch speakers. If you are planning to STAY at 5.2.2, then you will be fine...knowing that the NR686 puts out a little less power. If, however, you plan to go to 5.2.4 or more, then the RZ830 will probably work better since it is 5.2.4 and has pre-outs for external amps.

Onkyo Said 4-6 Days After Order For Shipment Email

When I ordered Monday mid-morning I was told to expect an email confirming order (which I got) and then I would get a separate email notification when the product has shipped. I was told to expect the shipment confirmation in 4 to 6 days. So, not expected to ship until this coming Friday/Monday.

So, I guess we all need to be patient. Onkyo orders aren't next day fast like Amazon Prime, etc it would seem.
