A checkerboard all over the whole screen? Or just in certain games, in certain sections.

 

its a noise pattern over the whole screen.


i know checkerboards are used to simulate transparencies but its not that at all.


here are some pictures of whats going on. i didn't take these but its exactly whats happening.

the guy who took em said that he upgraded his svideo cables to get rid of it. went from a cheap cable to a $30 one.

 

Yea I doubt its the TVs, and I doubt its the systems, if I were you I'd test out that guy's theory by upgrading your cable with one of the systems and seeing what happens.

 

I can confirm it is definitely the cable. I also had a cheapo 3-systems-in-1 cable for the Xbox, PS2, and GameCube, which I used with the SNES, and I would get diagonal lines all across the screen, similar to that picture. Then I went ahead and ordered a Monster GameCube S-video cable off Amazon for $5, and the lines went away.


Apparently, it has to do with how they wire the cheap cables. I don't remember the specifics, but it has something to do with the chroma and luma signals crossing over somehow.


So yeah, get a good quality cable, and you won't get this problem.
