What do I need to convert DVD's into VHS and S-VHS tapes?

Greetings,
I have been thinking about converting some DVD videos into VHS or S-VHS analog cassette tapes. Don't I need a Digital to Analog Converter (DAC) device designed for both video and audio to do this? I know that some are made for audio Hi-Fi use but I don't know if any are made for video use. If so, what are they called?
Thank you

Look at what type of analog video inputs your VHS or S-VHS player has. You should look for an old DVD player that has that same type of analog video output. Connect the audio and video cables between the two units and go for it. At least you won't have to deal with HDCP because it doesn't exist on DVI outputs or analog video outputs. You could run into issues with Macrovision. But I'm assuming that you aren't trying to copy commercial DVDs so this shouldn't be an issue.

You might be able to find the old DVD player you need at a thrift store.

There is a different work flow that would involve ripping the DVD to a computer and then recording the digital file to a VCR.
