Hello,

The house we purchased had some equipment left behind, including a ChannelPlus MDS-6A. There are 6 input control panels scattered around the house in 6 zones and the amp seems to be connected to a pair of in-ceiling speakers per zone. Is it worth trying to repurpose this amp/controller with the likes of a digital media server or streaming server, or should I look to completely replace this unit? I don't believe this unit has any WiFi capability so if I desire to have the ability to control via device, that would be a no-go.

Thanks

There is not much available in the low to mid-range whole house audio segment these days. Check out Monoprice, Dayton or HTD. None of those are particularity great especially in the keypad department. If it were me I would just use the system you have already have if it is functional. Just connect your favorite music steaming device (Chromecast, AirPort Express) or old MP3 player, computer, etc. and enjoy some background music. The keypads on your system can be controlled with an IR remote so you could setup a universal remote to at least control the zone in each room.
