Would an HDMI Coupler have any effect on two HIGHSPEED HDMI cables?

Hey guys, my parents have a new room build going on and Im going to need about a 30-40ft HDMI run. With the new highspeed (1.4) cables, Im just wondering if I have to use a coupler, will a standard one work fine and not have any effect on the features of the 1.4 cables?

The statement that a coupler should not affect the picture is false. HDMI will only certify 3D on cable lengths of 5 Ms or less. Anything above 5M may or may not work. Also, when it comes to couplers, currently no one makes a true "high speed" coupler. I've had personal experience with this in the field. You may get the picture just fine, but the audio drops in and out.

I've sold a few 3D setups now and I'm becoming well versed in the limitations and hiccups. If you can move the equipment to within 25 feet of the display you'll save yourself a lot of headaches.

Bad analogy. If the coupler does not maintain the characteristic impedance of the cable, it will result in part of the signal being reflected. And unfortunately, the manufacturers of these devices do not publish return loss figures. How good or bad are they? Nobody really knows but there is anecdotal evidence that at least some of them are problematic.

There is no such thing as a 30-40ft high speed cable. And putting two shorter ones together doesn't yield one. But acceptable results can often be achieved at that length because most of us are not pushing the maximum HDMI bit rate.

AFAIK all the couplers are straight through on all 19 pins, so it won't affect any features. But they may affect performance depending on return loss. You are better off minimizing the number of connections.

FWIW there are no 1.4 cables, just standard and high speed, with or without ethernet. The only changes from 1.3 are found in cables that support ethernet. Some of the pins have been re-purposed to support ethernet and the audio return channel.

The statement was wholly accurate 'should not' not would not. Ive been testing 3d through matrix switches over cat5 baluns and the signal is still being passed without issue.
