Is this true for all channels or only for the height channels? How does Auromatic expands 2.0 or 5.1 to 7.1? If Auromatich would get decent Front Wides support it may become my main upmixer.
So Auromatic doesnt really do channel extraction like DSU and Neural-X do. It copies active channels into nearby channels, including the height and provides a bit of delay to simulate reverb (based on the size parameter you choose)

For 2.0 sources, it copies that into the surround channels at a much lower SPL and a tiny amount of delay....enough that the soundstage is still forward focused, but now sounds much more expansive.

For 5.1 content, it copies just the surrounds to the rear surrounds. Then copies each ear level speaker to its height equivalent. Its still discrete at the 5.1 level. The other speakers effectively provide "soundstage expansion". The end result expands the soundstage all the way to the ceiling and much wider than your walls normally allow.

And the newer, upcoming version of Auro3D should be including support for Wide channels, based on their white paper.

I recently purchased the steelbook 4K UHD/DTS:X version of the movie Serenity and really enjoyed/impressed what I heard. Instant DTS:X party in your HT IMO. One of the reviews for this mix describe it as a "bit over the top"sonically. Just how I like it.

*Apparently there is a following for this movie/Firefly series--something I wasn't aware of until I googled it. I did however, find the movie a fun ride.

Question:

Anyone else purchase "Ghostbusters: Afterlife / Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire 2-disk collection" 4K UHD specifically, the IMAX Enhanced, DTS:X boxed set? I ask because I am not seeing any IMAX Enhanced ratio scenes e.g., 1.90:1 in either of these two IMAX Enhanced movies. DTS:X sounds great ( as usual). Wondering if there might be something wrong with my copies. Thanks in advance.

The are no expanded aspect ratio scenes. The imax monicker is just for the audio.

Yeah no aspect ratio here unfortunately. I'm curious if it got the Imax DMR treatment. I dont know why it wouldnt have, but this format seems inconsistent in its implementation.

The audio is pretty awesome though. Especially Afterlife.

I was off to a bad start with this set.

User error! I didn't realize it was double stacked disks in the case and proceeded to inadvertently load two discs in the player tray one on top of the other thinking it was just one disk. 😳 Of course the movie wouldn't play and I heard some strange noises. The tray itself jammed so I couldn't open the tray to inspect. Google to the rescue... and with the help of some other trouble-shooting/repair posts, I was able to disassemble the Panny 820 player, detach and then open up the player drive. Thankfully after removing the two disks from the tray/drive and resembling the unit all is well again. 😅

Then I noticed no expanded IMAX aspect ratio not even a few scenes...but yes, the DTS:X certainly delivers on both movies.

Came in the mail today. The DTS:X track is also excellent.

FUN movie and DTS:X! Even better at the current Amazon price.

Maybe it's just my collection, but is there a mediocre DTS:X home mix out there? Seems like Dolby Atmos UHD re-mixes are all over the place these days (not always in a good way) sound quality wise, but all my DTS:X UHDs are consistently very good mixes.

There are some mediocre ones. Atomic Blonde wasnt that impressive. I wasnt initially that impressed with 47 Ronin (Keanu Reeves version) but I watched that on my old 5.2.2 system. I need to give it a rewatch on my current 7.2.6 system. This is in regards to the immersive audio, not necessarily the bass.

Good to know. I'll make sure not to buy those two movies. Ha Ha.

"DMR" is IMAX's "Digital ReMastering." (The acronym "DRM" was already taken.) Almost everything that plays on an IMAX screen goes through DMR, which involves some noise reduction and some sharpening. The only movies that don't are those shot with native IMAX cameras.

I am aware. That was something they talked about in the marketing of Imax Enhanced is that they ensure those movies with the certification have the DMR process applied to them to conform to Imax standards. But since they arent presented in the Imax aspect ratio, I was wondering if they went through that process.

My understanding is that the "IMAX Enhanced" branding on home video is essentially what "THX Certified" used to be. Anything with that seal has to go through the entire IMAX Enhanced certification process, which involves both the DMR processing of the video and the extra IMAX metadata in the audio.

Whether the movie has an alternate aspect ratio or not is up to the filmmakers and not required (just as it's not required on IMAX theatrical screens).
