Hi,

My tv out in optical tothe umc-1 doesn't work as hoped, i only get stereo.

I am thinking about buying a minix neo u1 but it has hdmi 2.0 out. Will this work?

Yes, it's a philips 70pus7304/12 in the menu I also choose for the audio out via spdif in "multichannel". I could loop through the umc-1 the HDMI, as this is the most reliable.

Umc-1 doesn't support ARC so need to go via optical or loop hdmi through. Not sure though about this 2.0 stuff, if it matters if the umc-1 doesn't support it.

For 40 euro I can buy a streamer, whichis cheaper compared to buying a new processor with arc...but off course I want to be sure it works

The problem is you wont get 4k and such when going through the umc-1 so atm it looks like a choice between picture and multichannel sound unless you can get optical to work as intended.
It is also possible that some TV apps only do stereo and not multichannel (netflix, disney+ and such) depending on the app, in which case there may not be anything wrong with the optical setup if thats all you have tried. So what sources have you tried with the TV?

Thanks, yes indeed, 4k would not be possible. It is a 4k tv but honestly, I don't have any 4k content for it. I use my tv as the only source, don't watch any dvd or bluray anymore, streaming is so luch more convenient...

The only old fashioned thing I have is a record player, but obviously that goes into stereo and it's connected to a dedicated stereo preamp. I actually used that preamp in the past as it has an optical in but is stereo only.

I would buy a minix u9-h which is 4k capable.

Yes, so I bought a new 4k 2.0 cable and it works, the image goes from the cable box through my emotiva to the tv and sound stays in the emotiva.

But still no 5.1!!!

I'm becoming a bit confused...tested again my center speaker, still works, the amp as well...what can it be? Tried to install the latest update, what a pita...would need to start my laptop in "safe mode" but stopped trying fearing I might damage it.

Also have done a reset using the menu on the emotiva...

I know this thread is old, but if you never figured it out it sounds to me that you need to edit the audio setup for that particular HDMI input on the UMC unit itself through the setup menus. I got my umc1 previously owned about two years ago and had similar frustration until I swallowed my pride and dug into the manual, each input can be customized with soundfield options. I have found you can't enable all of the options for every device without any rhyme or reason that I've been able to wrap my head around, but you will see different options like DTS, PLII movie/PLII music etc and it's handy if you want to set your cable up for one flavor of surround and another source for a different one and not have to change it on the fly yourself. Set it at the start, and you don't have to touch it ever again. The menus in the setup are deep, go play around in there.
