I'm on the latest 8.0 version with the latest FALD update and I see a difference between the 3 settings. Easily noticeable in games with HDR like AC:Origins or Shadow of War. Haven't tried it on Netflix or Amazon but it definitely works for games.
Yes same here. Definitely noticeable on HDR supported games and also on stranger things in dark scenes

Does anyone know the definitive answer to whether we should enable 8 bit or 10 bit color on the Xbox One X for this panel? I understand that it is truly just 8 bit with emulation to 10 bit color. I'm wondering if setting the Xbox to 10 bit is actually causing problems since the panel isn't native 10bit.
I see no difference when selecting 8 10 or 12 bit. I keep mine on 10 and good to go

Being in this forum for a loooong time I know official threads and trying to find the page # with the "correct" calibration settings can take....some time...

Can anyone copy and paste the best, known to date, calibration settings that I can set for now? Then I'll tweak from there to what my eyes like.

Thanks and sorry to be lazy! :)

Is this TV a 10bit panel? or 8 bit with dithering? Is the mobile phone app better to use than the hardware remote that comes with the TV? Also I heard that the mobile phone remote app opens up settings that are not available on the remote that comes with it. Not calibration settings though right?

Thanks!
A user started a TCL P-Series Calibration thread and posted his results after going through the calibration process.

I have both. I think the P607/5 is worth the difference, but none of the other members of my family even noticed they weren't the same model. Even after I tried to show them the color range on some youtube content where the P607/5 really shines, the difference is only apparent if you care to look. I love both. The P607/5 for being such an amazing HDR value; the S405 for making a 55" 4k TV affordable as a 2nd TV.

My family sees no difference between our p607 and the us5800 I purchased last year for 350.00. I guess you have to be a videophile.

Hey Pros, been a while since I posted here, but I’m looking for some advice on this set. I am very seriously considering purchasing the 55P605 from Best Buy since the 607 has become nearly impossible to find for a decent price lately. (I’m kicking myself for not grabbing it earlier in the year.) I was really hoping for a 65” version, which brings me to my dilemma...

My fear is that with all of the rave reviews about the performance and price of this TV and the fact that it’s becoming a bit hard to find due to its popularity, TCL is going to cut features and/or raise prices substantially for the 2018 sets, like Samsung appears to have done with the 2017 M Series sets vs. the 2016 K Series sets.

Should I grab the 55” masterpiece now, or wait for 2018 and hope the trend of excellence continues (ideally in a variety of sizes). I really want this TV, but I was waiting for a holiday sale anywhere, which, of course, never happened.

Whada’yall think?

The whole reason TCL is growing so fast in the USA is because they offer budget tvs that actually do quite a bit, if not more, than other competing tv's twice their price. It would be foolish of them to suddenly back away from that. Most of their manufacturing is done internationally so they can charge cheaper prices.

As far as waiting goes, pending any special sales that big box places have, tv's won't typically drop drastically in price until the new line of tv's are out and the new lines are typically announced early in the year. I would imagine price would be part of that. If TCL comes out and says next year will have more stuff but still be affordable then sure, wait. If not, then I would by the P05 or P07.

TCL pulled the 65" P series, along with the smaller model, to focus on the production of the 55", which is in high demand. I doubt that pricing will go up next year and, on another forum, a poster quoted their customer service as telling him that the 65" was delayed until 2018; however, would be released "sometime during that year." It probably would have a feature, or two, added; however, we won't know until we know....but CES is coming next month and you would find out, then.

That being said, if you REALLY want a 65", don't buy the 55" and then later want the larger one. I have read lots of posts from people over different forums who regret not getting a 65" and getting a 55" instead, many of them going out and losing money selling their 55" and biting the bullet and moving up to where they wanted to be in the first place (with a 65"). I have NEVER read a post where someone regretted going larger, except where they got home and found out it didn't fit where they wanted it to and had to go with a 55". If you have your heart set on a 65", I'd wait it out, as it will appear, soon. Worst case, you wait a month, find out the 65" is delayed too long, and MAYBE get a 55P605/607 at a discount during the Super Bowl TV sales!

Hey it's kind of tough to search through this long thread. But can someone send me the link of the remote that allows private listening. I have the 605, but I'm reading that the 607 remote works.

Someone was able to get the remote with, I believe, model# rc135, which is currently out of stock through this link:

By the way, you can also utilize the Roku app for private listening. I tried it and it works perfectly, which convinced me to no longer want to purchase the remote.

You also have the option of using the Roku mobile app on your phone or tablet with the P605 to get Private Listening, Voice Search, etc.

Thanks I will check it out. I'm picking up a Harmony 665 for my set up today, so why get anotherrrmote if I could do it with the app.

Can a soundbar be mounted to the tv at the bottom without IR problems?

Sent from my SM-G930T using Tapatalk
I mounted a Vizio soundbar under mine and it works great. It's snug up against the panel, practically flush and no issues with the IR remote or the soundbar. I bought the Vizio SB-3651-E6 and am using it all with a harmony hub linked to an Echo Spot on the nightstand. Bought a 4-pak starter kit of the Phillips Hue lights and am pretty much dialed in the MBR. Wife is pleased. Happy wife, happy life!

Extremely pleased with this set.

Thanks for that I mounted my soundbar a couple of inches below as one of the other forum members recommended. So far it's been good

Depends on your model for soundbar placement. P605 model is IR based for remote support and needs to have line of sight to the IR receiver located under the TCL logo in middle of set. P607 model is Wifi based for remote support. I have the P605 with Vizio soundbar and found that is was an intermittent issue getting good response from IR remote. Solved mine with an inexpensive IR Remote extender and was able to place the soundbar as flush as I needed without any issues. This is assuming you are using the remotes that came with each set.

CR lists this tv (605) so low (45) on the list,it is in small print.Even being beat by Insignia.Do these guys know what they are doing?

The answer to that is NO.

I have not taken anything CR does, writes or says seriously for many decades.

You're right, I left that important tidbit out, but I too have the 605 with IR remote and have had no issues. I'm even using soundbar brackets that attach it to the back of the TV so the soundbar is as close as you can get to the bottom of the TV. That IR receiver by the logo sticks out just enough I think that it can still see the signal. Perfect setup for our bedroom and am extremely happy with it.
