Hi All: Brand new to this forum and hoping for a bit of info. By way of background, my father sold M&K speakers in Utah out of his store until he passed away in 2004. My first pair of speakers were SX7s with a VX7 that I still have and treasure for the memories. I also have a pair of M&K S-1Cs I got from him that I'm not using anymore since I went to a 7.1 wall mounted system via SVS. They are in good shape, oak, still have the foam inside and in the back ports and still have the original grills with logos (but some wear on the grills). And I have the black stands under them too. I'm trying to decide if I should put them up on Ebay, try to sell them on on our local news classifieds or Facebook Marketplace, or just take them to the thrift store and be done. I've spent a couple hours today trying to figure this all out and came across this forum and thought some might have wisdom to share. Thanks in advance. :) Dave Edited to add: I realize I wasn't specific with my question. I'm wondering about potential value in these. I couldn't see any sales on ebay etc. If value is high enough (likely $300 or more) I'll deal with the costs and time of Ebay, if medium then local online places, and if low (less than $100) I'll just thrift store them. And I've attached pictures if that helps. I need to clean the stands

I’m interested. Do you happen to have boxes to ship the speakers? Would like to find out shipping costs to Texas 78258 ty

Thanks for your interest. I think under the forum rules I'd have to post in the Marketplace to sell. I may go that route. Right now I'm just trying to get a feel for the value on these so I can figure out how much time to put into listing them, weighing, packaging etc, plus if it is worth the ebay/paypal fees etc. My time is valuable to me so trying to figure out if it is worth it. Just wondered if someone here would have a feel for the price range or a minimum price I should list them at off the top of their head. I've been an M&K fan since the 80s but my knowledge source ended when my dad passed. As for shipping, I think they weigh about 20 pounds each and you could use 84111 as the shipping location. I'll keep you in mind if/how I decide to sell but I need to look into the forum rules to make sure I don't overstep any bounds. Probably safer for all involved if I put them up on an auction site. I've been on Ebay since 1999, 665 transaction with 100% positive feedback, but on here no one knows me--I'm very much a newbie. :)

Same here, I’ve been on eBay since ‘98 and literally joined AVS yesterday specifically to contact you about the speakers :) I just happened to be doing a google search and your post came up. Unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of historical sales data on the S-1C’s. The closest I find are S-1B’s and they go from $200-400 a pair depending on condition. Asking price varies but actual sales seems to match those numbers. You might have seen the one eBay listing currently posted that has 5ea S-1C’s 1ea S-125c and 1ea MX-5000 and asking price is $3k but no takers so far. Also, It appears younger generations aren’t aware of the brand and it doesn’t help with the fact that M&K has abandoned the U.S. market and gotten obnoxiously expensive with the closest distributor being in Canada. I’m familiar with the speakers because I used to work at an M&K dealer in the 80’s/90’s and still have a soft spot for their unique sound. If you do decide to sell the S-1C’s please let me know.

Sounds good. I did see that auction but couldn't find anything in the sold category on ebay. And those numbers are consistent with what I've been able to find on S-1Bs. It is a bummer about M&K in the USA. True pioneers in speakers and changed the whole industry with the satellite/sub model. When I went to upgrade my home system, I tried to contact M&K USA but they never responded/emails bounced so I did an SVS system instead. I really do like how my SVS SB-3000 sub performs though with the Ultra speakers. :) As much as I'm tied to M&K, I couldn't bring myself to invest 1000s in a speaker system with unknown US support. I'm glad to have found this forum and hear that others also appreciate M&K.

I've owned both and in my opinion, the Sx-7 are far superior speakers in terms as sound quality and output. They are small bookshelf speakers, so mounting them on the ceiling for atmos would necessitate a larger footprint than the diminutive mp6nk.

Hi I have mksound mk sound s150 mk2 setup, with 2x X10 subs. On the back of the sub should i choose

If your AVR has a low pass filter or internal crossover as part of its bass management system, use "NO LOW PASS THX MODE" (letting the AVR handle the filtering, and better than choosing variable and turning it all the way up). The "FIXED LOW PASS 80Hz" option is intended for use with the M&K active speakers which include a "“Fixed High Pass 80 Hz” filter setting. "VARIABLE LOW PASS" allows selecting a low pass roll off between 50 and 125 Hz for use with AVRs and processors that have no internal crossover.

Replacement woofers for MX700 subwoofer

I have 3 of them and I'm thinking of experimenting on 1 of them since the plate amp is malfunctioning.

Currently using a Crown xls2502 configured in bridge mono and 85hz low pass to replace the plate amp. Cut the + and - and pig tied them to some speaker wire and connected the amp. Works.

Now I'm thinking what would be the highest performance 8" speaker driver to replace the existing M&K 8" drivers? How to I select the drivers based on the push pull configuration?

I'm looking for very fast and clean bass down to 20ish hz. They would need to run without too much heat as I often listen for hours at a time, albeit not at super high db levels.

I have a few Crown and other pro amps lying around and really like the form factor of the MX700 so when those plate amps die, I have a solution.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Join me for a short video overview of the M&K home cinema demonstration room at Habitech in the UK.

Last month I spent the day at Habitech to see some products and equipment which we don't have available in South Africa. During the time there he spent about an hour in the 7.4.2 home cinema room to take a listen to the room.

This is the short video overview from the time in this room:
