I finally did my first calibration using the Spyder X Pro on my NX9. I had been too afraid for such a long time to do it as some of the comments were a bit hit and miss.
Anyway I found it easier than expected and the video I followed by on youtube by “The Casual Cinephile” was very clear.
However I wouldn’t have a clue what the graphs have to say, is there a simple easy tutorial to understand them please?
If you want to make a brief description of my results I would be pleased.
I did high lamp on both SDR and HDR with the filter in place as my lamp hours are approx. 1700 hrs. 150” scope ST 130 G4 screen. The image is lovely and bright. Gamma 2.4. Colour plus Gamma recorded.
I have found the image is way better, more clarity, pop, definition, blacks, detail, and richer colours by far. Even if the graphs arnt good it does look 100% better to my eyes.

I just did mine as well (RS1000 and Spyder X) The only issue I had was direct connecting to the projector using "The Casual Cinephile" instructions. I think it was on the computer end. I finally gave up, connected the projector to my network and used WiFi on the computer. Set the projector up for network, got the IP address and the rest was a piece of cake.

Still dialing in some of my preferences but, all and all, I am happy.

Apologies in advance, as I'm sure that this question has been asked and answered repeatedly, but I haven't had any success with finding a clear, succinct response and I'm just getting lost/frustrated/confused from going down all of the rabbit hole discussions on the various threads. So...

I've got an NX7 that's running the 3.5.2 firmware and am running Autocal 12 version 1.11. I'm using a SpiderX Pro for gamma, but I want a sensor that can produce more accurate results for color and am thoroughly confused as to which one(s) I should be looking at. Spending >$1,000 on the iPro 2 isn't something that I'm eager to do at the moment, but it's my understanding that there are other iPro models (or re-branded equivalents) that will produce good color results at a lower price point.

Can someone please, please specify which lower-tier iPro/equivalent meters I should be considering for color calibration with the above setup? My eternal gratitude to anyone who can part the clouds of confusion and offer clear direction!

Any version of i1Pro 2 should work, including the OEM versions (EFI ES2000, etc). Even the old i1Pro works. However, AFAIK the newer i1Pro 3 does not work.

Thanks SO much, Dominic! This is extremely helpful. When I search for i1Pro, I'm still seeing a wide range of models. Is this the one that you're referring to?

No, that's an i1Display.

i1 Pro and i1 Pro 2 look like this:

The meters can have a different branding (i.e. EFI ES-2000), but they will look identical physically.

Got it, thanks. So only monitors with this form factor will work, correct?

Correct.

Unless you want to get into Autocal DLL mods which allow other unsupported meters to be used.

Ah, that explains why I was seeing references to using those other unsupported meters. Thanks for the clarification.

So on the used market I'm seeing the i1Pro/ES-2000 at what seem like reasonable prices, but some appear to have various parts/accessories missing. What is/isn't needed - above and beyond the meter (and cable) itself - to run a color calibration on a projector?

Also, some of these reference coming with/without licenses. If I'm just running Autocal, what licenses, if any, do I need to have?

Technically all you need is the meter and it's serial number matched cradle/holder which contains a sliding cover over its white calibration tile.

Yes normally these go for $350-500 used on eBay.

I have an X-rite i1Basic Pro 2 listed in the classified section.

I have used the Spyder X Pro with autocal for gamma and colour with very good results.
However I just bought a EFI ES-2000 meter so I can use it for colour only on my NX9. Ive been reading the JVC instructions for it on their website as i dont know what differs using this meter over the Spyder. They state this before you start.....

Click the button of the optical sensor in use. * Before using i1 Pro2, you need to perform initialization on the optical sensor. Refer to the instruction manual of the optical sensor for instructions on placing the sensor on the calibration plate that comes with the sensor. Then connect to the PC and click the button.

Can someone point me to how to do this as I dont have the meter yet as its coming from the UK and I dont even know if it has a manual in the case?
Thank you in advance.

I really don't think you ever click the button. All I have ever seen is clicking the button is for taking color measurements of paper squares. I have never clicked the button on my i1 Pro 2 ever, for any reason using it for display calibration for 2 years now.

But yes you are supposed to calibrate the meter before use each time. This calibration process is triggered from the computer and happens when you select the meter in Autocal. Just have it on the calibration tile at this time.

SirMaster thank you for that its now very clear....

I believe these meters dont have a thread for a tripod and one needs to buy a third party attachment, Ive orderted a phone holder from Amazon, did you do the same?
Has anyone posted images of the i1 Pro 2 or the EFI ES-2000 held with a third party bracket attached to a tripod facing the screen?

The i1 Pro 2 can come with a tripod mount.

If yours doesn't, then you will have to find some holder.

Mine has one and it looks like this:

Is there a hinge on the top of that holder as we need to angle the meter up to the centre of the screen like we do with the spyder, correct?

I mean, you would normally use the tripod to adjust the position or angle of whatever is attached to it.

I don't angle the meter much though. I place it far back to eliminate any shadow and to measure the screen from the seating viewing angle.

This is to eliminate any color shift from screen angle.
